Miss Sophie Bagster
Words and sculpture
2026
“Something here about no music in the life drawing class because we don’t want the model to
dance...”
"An endurance piece wherein miss bagster simulates the physicality of derealisation disorder via
a self-modelled sculpture without letting her hands stray from the typewriter. Inspired by the
personal incantations of a Lispector-meets-Ballard academic, THE LAST UNICORN, plays with
words as sculpture, and sculpture as breath."
Miss Sophie Bagster is a so-called writer of words and artist of art based in Sydney’s lush Inner West. Hailing from the likes of a small-town upbringing, Miss Bagster occupies herself with questions of form, body, language and the moving image. When she is not hunched over her typewriter, Miss Bagster is dressing like Elizabeth Taylor to do her grocery shopping (dark chocolate and a box of Earl Grey) and sitting right up the back of the cinema.
